Fred VanVleet’s Comment From 2016 Aged Incredibly Well After Signing Rockets Contract

June 25, 2025 by The Spun

Back in 2016, former Wichita State guard Fred VanVleet tweeted, “Bet on yourself.” Fast forward to 2023, and it’s safe to say he won that bet.

VanVleet agreed to a three-year, $130 million contract with the Rockets at the start of free agency Friday night. His deal was negotiated by Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul.

After the contract was agreed to, VanVleet went on Twitter to bring up his post from 2016.

This time around, VanVleet simply commented, “Again.”

The expectation in Houston is that VanVleet will give the franchise a much-needed leader on the hardwood and in the locker rom.

Obviously, this a crushing loss for the Raptors. VanVleet has been their floor general for the past four seasons.

That being said, the Rockets probably took VanVleet out of the Raptors’ price range by offering him max money.

During the 2022-23 season, VanVleet averaged 19.3 points and 7.2 assists per game.
