The Rockets take on the Suns for the third and final time this season
You’re probably getting tired of me saying “This is a big game for the Houston Rockets.”
At this point, they’re all big. Houston is desperately holding onto the second seed in the Western Conference while being chased by the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Memphis Grizzlies. Houston’s schedule down the stretch is brutal, with only one game remaining against a tanking squad. And that tanking squad (Utah) seemingly plays their best basketball against the Rockets and no one else.
Of course, you also know the added importance of this game because of tonight’s opponent. Unless you’re living under a rock, you know that the Rockets will be drafting in Phoenix’s place (as a result of a pick swap following a different pick swap, naturally). So a win for Houston could further push the Suns down the standings and give Houston a better pick in the draft.
Finally, tonight starts Houston’s final back-to-back of the season. They lead the league in them and it will be nice to finally be done with this nonsense. Unfortunately, this combo of Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers is pretty sour, so Houston should be happy with 1-1 on this one. Yes, they should go for 2-0, but realistically a 1-1 mark would be fine in the long run.
It’s looking more and more like that final game against Denver is going to matter.
