Rockets not interested in Brandon Ingram for Alperen Sengun swap

June 21, 2024 by Hoops Hype

For example, Houston would love to add a player like Donovan Mitchell but recent reports suggest the All-NBA guard is likely to sign an extension to stay in Cleveland. In notebook 1.0, New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram was mentioned as a player seen in a lower tier than Mitchell and in recent days, rumors have swirled about the Pelicans dangling Ingram in trade talks and in one iteration, a hypothetical Ingram-for-Alperen Sengün swap was mentioned, but the Rockets have no interest, team sources said.

Is Donovan Clingan at the top of Houston’s board? New Orleans made a Brandon Ingram for Alperen Sengun trade pitch? Possibilities to move down in the draft? There’s a lot to unpack from the @KellyIko article in @TheAthletic. We’re talking #Rockets live… playback.tv/clutchfans?s=f… – 11:08 AM

More on this storyline

League sources said New Orleans also contacted the Philadelphia 76ers concerning a possible Ingram trade. -via New York Times / June 20, 2024
Brandon Ingram has one year remaining on his contract. On July 6, he becomes eligible to sign a four-year extension worth $208 million. The Pelicans value Ingram’s talent and his down-to-earth personality, but as The Times-Picayune reported in May, the team does not have a willingness to pay him a contract worth $52 million in average annual value. -via New Orleans Times-Picayune / June 16, 2024
Michael Scotto: There’s been some chatter about whether Cleveland would have interest in Brandon Ingram, but I’ve gotten the sense from talking to league sources that Cleveland isn’t enthralled with the idea of trading for him and then having to pay him a ton of money after his contract season. -via HoopsHype / June 12, 2024
If the Hawks were to take Clingan or Buzelis first, and if Risacher were to go second, then there’s a possibility that Sarr would fall out of the top two. Then things would get interesting. Could a team try to move up to no. 3 to take him? If the Rockets stay put, Sarr would be redundant alongside Jabari Smith, whom they took with the third pick in 2022, and either Sarr or Alperen Sengun would need to develop as a shooter. So he doesn’t work there. A trade seems possible, and the Rockets are indeed at least hearing out offers. -via The Ringer / June 15, 2024
Shams Charania: They’re going to be active on the market, they’re gonna listen. But what they end up doing… it’s either going to be paying these guys either just shy of the max or maxes, or you’re going to have to trade one of them. -via Rockets Wire / June 11, 2024
Speaking on Run It Back on FanDuel TV, longtime NBA insider Shams Charania (The Athletic, Stadium) said this week: The Rockets went after Mikal Bridges last season. They’ve already shown this desire to get a top-flight player at the wing position. But Jalen Green, the way he emerged in the second half of the season, clearly they have a burgeoning star in him. Alperen Sengun, look at the numbers he put up. To me the question is going to be, what type of extensions do you give both of them? Do you give them both max deals? Are they both worthy of max deals? Do you look to trade one of them and go get a star player? That’s the question in Houston. -via Rockets Wire / June 11, 2024
