The New York Knicks being good was fun for a bit.
After years of mediocrity at best and unpleasantness at worst, the Knicks have regained the sparkle that shone during the 90s and Linsanity. For years, people have lamented that the biggest market in the NBA hasn’t had a great team. Now it has the Brooklyn Nets and an upstart Knicks team that is developing a young core that could be really good in a few years.
While that means more money for the league and teams, the fear that stars will only want to play for the four teams in the two biggest markets will not be dying down anytime soon. The Clippers were a laughingstock a decade ago, and now they are a contender. The Lakers will always be the preferred destination, but the Clippers are viable now. Now imagine the biggest team in the biggest market being a preferred destination, and that’s a problem.
The Knicks currently sit in fourth place in the East. They do have a 5-game road trip coming up against Western Conference playoff teams, which could hurt. However, they also finish the season at home against Boston in a game that could have major implications.
The Rockets are almost done tanking away an entire season. I hope it’s the last one for a while.
Tip-off is at 7pm CT on AT&T SportsNet Southwest
