A big decision is coming soon for the Rockets.
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Houston Rockets fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
This week’s Reacts question was in regards to Fred VanVleet. There’s no question that the addition of VanVleet was a huge one for the Rockets, and one that helped to change the direction of the franchise. He offered the Rockets a calm, veteran floor general to accelerate the development of all of Houston’s young pieces.
But he hasn’t had a great year, particularly shooting the basektball, finishing the season with just a 37.8 percent shooting percentage. He’s also been underwhelming in the postseason to this point, averaging just 8.5 points and 4.5 assists on 22 percent shooting against the Golden State Warriors through the first two games.
Finally, the Rockets hold a $44 million team option on him for next season. We asked you if the Rockets should exercise his option, re-sign him to new (and cheaper deal), or simply let him walk. Here’s what you said:

As you can see, only 7 percent of readers want VanVleet back at the $44 million. The majority of you do want him back, just for less money, while a surprisingly high number of voters (44 percent) just want him gone. Personally, I would like him back for about half of what he’s making now, but also wouldn’t be terribly upset to see him go. Thanks, Fred, but you’re making too much money.
