Suns not promising to send Kevin Durant to San Antonio, Houston or Miami

June 16, 2025 by Hoops Hype

The wish list thus only goes three deep, featuring Texas neighbors San Antonio and Houston and the Miami Heat. Sources say the Suns, meanwhile, are not promising to send Kevin Durant to any of those destinations. They are open to a mutually beneficial trade to the Spurs, Rockets or Heat if they end up liking the return, but it appears that Phoenix is prepared to make the best deal it can after surrendering a staggering haul to acquire Durant from Brooklyn in the first place in February 2023.

Analyzed all the reporting Saturday on KD wanting to land with the Spurs, Rockets, or Heat.
Looked at latest reports Wolves might not be close anymore to getting deal done and then put some hypothetical packages together for SA/HOU/MIA.

KD leak about his preferred teams feels pretty pointed. Which, good for him and his reps, go for it. But I feel like Phoenix is just gonna move him where they want to move him. – 11:16 PM

Kevin Durant has been on the trade market effectively since February. The timing of this “preferred destinations” reporting feels conspicuous. It suggests to me that a non-preferred team is getting close and he’s working against them. – 10:19 PM

With the Kevin Durant trade negotiations fully underway and a list of suitors known, I took a stab at what the Suns could be holding firm on with each team as the bidding continues and we wait for a deal to get done: arizonasports.com/nba/phoenix-su… – 5:48 PM

Ian Begley @IanBegley
One thing worth noting on potential Kevin Durant trades: there are important Suns voices who want to add a starting-caliber C this offseason. There are several pathways to do this but KD trade obviously gives PHX the clearest path to one. As many others have said, MIN is among – 4:09 PM

More on this storyline

Per league sources, the Suns want both good players and a package of picks as the internal expectation is that they will be competitive next season. -via SportsNet / June 15, 2025
Sources suggesting the Raptors were and would be again interested in finding a way to make a deal for Antetokounmpo work are credible, and consistent with the buzz I’ve heard here at the NBA Finals. And the same is true for Durant, who the Raptors were linked to — again, credibly — prior to the 2022-23 season. According to league sources, the Raptors were monitoring Durant’s availability leading up to the trade deadline this past February so it’s not surprising that the Raptors have been referenced as a team that might be willing to take a one-year “gamble” on Durant, who is under contract for 54.7 million for the upcoming season at age 37. -via SportsNet / June 15, 2025
Kevin Durant’s list of preferred trade destinations contains three teams. Yet it almost had four. The Stein Line has learned that the Knicks also would have featured on that list but were ultimately omitted when New York made it clear that it has decided against pursuing a trade for the NBA’s No. 8 all-time leading scorer. -via marcstein.substack.com / June 15, 2025
