Texas A&M Men’s Outdoor Track and Field wins its fifth NCAA title.
It doesn’t get much more exciting than this for Texas A&M track & field. The men’s team won their fifth NCAA Outdoor Championship in an absolute nail-biter at Hayward Field Friday night.
Heading into the final event, the Aggies were sitting in fourth place and needed a huge performance in the 4x400m relay. Under pressure, the relay team of Hossam Eddine Hatib, Cutler Zamzow, Kimar Farquharson, and Auhmad Robinson stepped up big-time. Hatib kicked things off strong, Zamzow and Farquharson kept them in the hunt, and Robinson closed out with an epic anchor leg, grabbing second place and just enough points to clinch the title.
Earlier in the meet, Sam Whitmarsh lit up the track with an incredible late surge to win the men’s 800m, bringing home what would end up being vital points for the Aggies. Hurdlers Ja’Qualon Scott and Bryce McCray scored their personal bests, contributing more crucial points in the 400m hurdles.
This co-championship with USC gives coach Pat Henry his 10th national title with the Aggies. Yes, Texas A&M is a track school. It could be worse.
