Or should they wait until next year?

Rockets big man Alperen Sengun finished the year on the injury shelf, but there’s no doubting the type of season he had. He was a finalist for the NBA Most Improved Player Award and finished the year with averages of 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the fied and 29.7 percent from deep. It was one heck of a season for the 21-year-old center.
Sengun is signed on his rookie deal team option for next season, when he is scheduled to make $5.4 million. According to Shams Charania, Sengun could be in line for as much as a $225 million max extension. The Rockets have flexibility with Jock Landale and Jeff Green holding non-guaranteed deals, Fred VanVleet only having one guaranteed season left, and moveable players like Jae’Sean Tate and Dillon Books.
But the Rockets could even have more flexibility in 2025 due Sengun’s low cap hold and Houston’s ability to go over the cap. At the same time, it’s a good idea to commit to your core players who you see as soon-to-be-stars.
So what should the Rockets do?
We’ll be back soon with the results.
